Your mashed potatoes are in need of this delicious EASY vegan gravy, and the best news is they can have it in just 5 minutes!!!
So many vegan gravy recipes out there are rather complicated, with their chopped onions and mushrooms… I don’t know about you, but usually by the time I think about wanting gravy, I’m ready to eat, so I wanted to create a super easy & quick recipe for all my emergency gravy needs!
This easy vegan gravy will come in handy on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and any other holiday! Even if the other recipes you make are complicated, at least this one is not.

Easy Vegan Gravy
Ingredients
- 2 cups vegetable broth
- 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 3 tablespoons nutritional yeast
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or use tamari for gluten free)
- 1/2 teaspoon dijon mustard
- 1/4 cup all purpose flour (or use brown rice flour for gluten free)
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a medium sized pot and bring to a boil.
- Whisk over medium-high heat for a couple of minutes, until the gravy thickens.
- Serve with mashed potatoes! This gravy keeps well for up to a week in the fridge. Just re-warm, add a little water if too thick, stir and serve.

This was wonderful! ย My broth was from a recipe for cooking my seitan โturkeyโ so it was already seasoned so I was cautious with the seasonings. ย I only added 1 tbs of nutritional yeast and I had my doubts about the Dijon but it added just the right extra flavor. ย Thank you so much!

This recipe was definitely a hit! We did leave out the nutritional yeast, but otherwise, followed it to a t. And yes, I will be making it more often than just once a year.

This came out perfect; seasoning, texture and flavor were delicious! I added a little rosemary & ย sage. ย I didnโt have any flour so I ground oatmeal and was surprised it came out so well.

I use fresh mushrooms for the gravy. It takes out the tamari saltiness.
I love this gravy and put it on EVERYTHING! Iโve changed a few things here and there – sometimes I add miso or amino acids.ย

Thank you Nora! Been making vegan gravy for 15 years and this is the easiest and BEST, hands down. Great on its own and also easy to tweak according to your liking. I add a tsp of marmite, some white pepper, a shake of liquid smoke and fresh sage to it. The depth of flavour is unreal!

Yes you can make it without the nutritional yeast. The flavor should be still be great!

May I ask a question not having tried this yet? Doesn’t the flour clump? Isn’t that the point of making a roux beforehand? Or does it eventually smooth out? Thanks in advance!

Yes, that would work well.
Made this by using tapioca flour (couldn’t find my plain flour)
Fantastic. Only addition I made was a half tsp sugar to counteract the salt in it.
